Sam Houston Electric Cooperative Becomes First Utility to Select SPL's®
enSUMIT Product Suite
SAN FRANCISCO, February 7, 2006 - Sam Houston
Electric Cooperative, one of the largest electric cooperatives in
Texas, is the first utility to select all four of the products in
the SPL® enSUMIT product suite.
SPL enSUMIT is the integrated form of SPL's best-of-breed applications
in customer care and billing, outage and distribution management,
enterprise asset and work management, and mobile workforce management.
Each enSUMIT suite is designed to meet the needs of a specific type
of utility: integrated utilities, energy distributors, retailers,
water utilities, cooperatives and municipal utilities.
"We pride ourselves on having a very lean operation,”
said Kyle Kuntz, CEO of Sam Houston Electric Cooperative. "With
65,000 meters and only 155 employees, we must operate very efficiently.
That’s a key reason we turned to the SPL enSUMIT for Cooperatives
product suite.”
Sam Houston needed to replace an outmoded in-house billing system,
Kuntz explained, and also required customer relationship management
functionality to replace another system. SPL’s integrated
approach was the answer to both needs, Kuntz said.
"We really like the idea of having one vendor provide all
of our key member service solutions," Kuntz said, "since
better integration and improved member service are also among our
key objectives. And increased automation makes life easier for our
employees.”
Quentin Grady, SPL sr. vice president and general manager, Americas,
said, "We’re very pleased that Sam Houston Electric Cooperative
has become the first utility to choose our enSUMIT product suite
to improve its enterprise-wide business processes. It’s another
demonstration that SPL Strategic Utility Management (SUM)—the
integration of our multiple product and services offerings into
an enterprise-class solution suite—is responding to a market
need for integrated solutions. Of SPL’s 28 new product sales
in 2005, nine involved multiple product sales to a single customer.”
Grady added, "SPL is proud of its record of helping electric
cooperatives improve service to their members and we look forward
to continuing to help this progressive electric cooperative meet
its members’ expectation for high-quality service.”
