FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2005 Results Demonstrate Utility Market is Embracing SPL® Strategic Utility Management (SUM)
SPL Advances on DistribuTECH 2006 with SUM Product, Technology, and Services Offerings.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 6, 2006 - Of SPL's twenty-eight new product sales in 2005, "nine of them involved multiple product sales to a single SPL customer," says SPL WorldGroup CEO Larry Hagewood.

"That's proof positive," he says, "that Strategic Utility Management (SUM)—the integration of our multiple products and services offerings into an enterprise class solution suite—responds to the trend toward integrated platforms that analysts have predicted."

Gartner Vice President Zarko Sumic, Ph.D., notes, "One of the most significant ways to accomplish the cost saving and operational efficiency most all utilities desire is an integrated solution that cuts across retail and distribution environments."

At DistribuTECH 2006, SPL will feature SUM side-by-side with its individual best-of-breed applications in customer care and billing, mobile workforce management, outage and distribution management, and enterprise asset and work management.

"Individual best-of-breed products remain our bedrock business," says Hagewood. "But a number of our clients envision a world in which IT products and services merge to provide seamless and efficient business processes across the enterprise. SUM embodies that vision," he says.

"SUM's integrated whole is far more than the sum of its parts," Hagewood points out. "By joining unique, mission-critical applications, underpinning them with an integrative, services-oriented, enterprise information architecture, and wrapping them in a comprehensive and carefully orchestrated suite of proven professional services, SUM creates cohesion. It eases the flow of enterprise-wide business processes. And its Enterprise Business Intelligence capability provides utility-specific analysis across all applications to improve decision-making.

With SUM, Hagewood says, "SPL fuses operational applications with a state-of-the-art IT architecture, and encompasses this integration with professional services to meet utilities' current and emerging needs. SUM helps utilities dramatically improve operational efficiency, significantly reduces operating costs and allows strategic utility enterprises to achieve performance rigors never reached before."

At DistribuTECH 2006, SPL will introduce the three outstanding enterprise-wide product and service families that comprise its SUM offering:

  • SPL® enTEGRITY - This services-oriented technology and integration architecture serves as a foundation platform for all SPL applications. It also powers SPL Enterprise Business Intelligence, a unique set of integrative, preconfigured analytics that provide—right out of the box—utility-specific guidance for strategic initiatives that support business objectives.
  • SPL® enSUMIT - the integrated form of SPL's best-of-breed applications in customer care & billing, outage & distribution management, enterprise asset & work management, and mobile workforce management. Each enSUMIT suite is designed to meet the needs of a specific utility type: integrated utilities, energy distributors, retailers, water utilities, cooperatives, and municipal utilities. Clients that purchase two or more products within the suite receive free product pre-integration and ongoing free integration maintenance. This results in significant cost savings over time
  • SPL® enCOMPASS - This suite includes the unique, world-class services that have underpinned SPL's unparalleled record of implementation success. Also part of the enCOMPASS suite are SPL's proven support, upgrade, and maintenance services as well as enterprise-level health checks, outsourcing, managed services, system optimization, and analysis of return on investment.

All SPL offerings will be on display at Booth #1319 at DistribuTECH 2006, February 7 to 9 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa Florida, USA.
