FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SPL WorldGroup Announces the Launch of Robust New Business Intelligence Solution

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, MAY 2, 2005 - SPL WorldGroup, a leading provider of mission-critical software solutions for the global utility market, today announced the introduction and availability of their robust “out of the box” Business Intelligence software application built specifically for the needs of the utility market.

SPL's suite of enterprise software solutions is designed to maximize operational efficiencies for all sectors of the energy, water and service utilities. The rich functionality of SPL's Business Intelligence solution provides immediate value that will directly affect bottom line results, at a fraction of the cost of more generic and cumbersome tool sets on the market.

This first release, pre-built to integrate with SPL’s Customer Care & Billing product (SPL CC&B), is an important step in fulfilling SPL’s vision of a total Business Intelligence solution integrated across the entire SPL suite of products. Designed to sit on top of those applications, SPL Business Intelligence extracts information directly from a live application in an end-to-end offering that maximizes the quality of long-term, strategic, decision-making capabilities for utilities by creating a far more cohesive picture of the entire utility.

"SPL Business Intelligence provides the information analysis capabilities utilities need to operate more efficiently and be more competitive," said Richard MacDonald, senior vice president of product management at SPL. "The SPL BI solution is built with an intuitive engine, pre-defined to extract data from the operational system and make it readily available to support a variety of business decisions. A customizable dashboard allows users to easily monitor mission-critical conditions and detect trends. This clear and flexible presentation of information helps monitor progress against key performance indicators and enables swift response before small problems become extreme or opportunities vanish."

SPL Business Intelligence differentiators help utilities maximize their competitive advantage:

  • Specifically designed for the utility industry by using current utility performance metrics and providing capabilities for users to easily add and access pre-defined extracts of their most critical data.
  • Architected as a solution, not a data warehouse tool. Out of the box value is delivered immediately. There is no need for costly, time consuming and complex data and code extractions, scripting or transformation and loading processes that are required with most BI tools on the market.
  • 'Smart' architecture – data extracts are pulled from a live production operating system and held in an easily accessible repository. As a result, large volumes of data from multiple database platforms are easily supported without slowing your system. Built on a scalable platform, the flexibility of the system makes it easy to deploy, configure and upgrade.
  • An integrated single vendor product saves valuable time and resources by providing easy 'one-stop shopping' and eliminates the difficulties involved with reliance on third party tools, with just one interface. Meaningful results are delivered at a fraction of the cost.

"Business Intelligence tools are in considerable demand among utilities right now. Integrating those tools with customer information, operational data and other elements of a utility's information system is vital to enable strategic planning and coping with current realities,”" commented Warren B. Causey, vice president Utility Research and Analysis, Energy Central. "SPL's approach seems to be in line with what many utilities are asking for."

"This is another example of SPL's vision and commitment to continually increase the value of our offering to utilities worldwide," stated Harry Debes, president and CEO of SPL. “With limited revenue growth opportunities, today’s utilities must find ways to immediately improve internal efficiencies and reduce operating costs. The advantages of a Business Intelligence solution conjoined with live applications, such as Customer Care & Billing, elevates the effectiveness of strategic decision-making, with an immediate impact on the bottom line.”
