Harris Wins Two Alaskan Contracts
October 27, 2004 - Harris Computer Systems (“Harris”)
reinforced its leading position within the Customer Information
System (CIS) market by entering into agreements with Alaska Electrical
Light and Power (AEL&P) and the City of Seward, AK. Harris continues
to expand throughout North America and now has a significant presence
in the state of Alaska. Together, these successive accomplishments
further demonstrate Harris’ commitment to its overriding goal
of delivering cost-effective solutions that meet the technological,
organizational efficiency, and fiscal responsibility goals of its
clients.
“We are pleased to put a stake in the ground in Alaska as
it was one of the few states where we did not have an existing customer,”
said Jeff Bender, CEO of Harris. “When you have the right
solution for a client, it is not selling; it is partnership-building.
Both AEL&P and Seward were great to work with because both knew
what they needed. AEL&P conducted a rigorous evaluation which
ensured the selected solution would meet their overall goals and
objectives, and they then shared their findings with Seward. We
are very supportive of customers who take the time to perform a
rigorous diligence when selecting a system and vendor. We know from
experience that what results is an extremely successful and mutually
beneficial long term partnership.”
Dennis Asbury, Harris VP of Sales and Marketing, added, “Having
two clients in proximity both implementing within months of each
other is an ideal situation. Right away, we’ve established
a community and will leverage the knowledge and experience of all
parties involved.”
“NorthStar won us over with its functionality and usability,”
stated Steve Petershoare, IT Director at AEL&P. “We knew
what we wanted and weren’t going to compromise. NorthStar
met our needs, and so far, it’s been really great working
with the people from Harris.”
Similarly Kristin Erchinger, Finance Director at the City of Seward,
was extremely excited about working with Harris: “We entered
the market looking for an intuitive solution that utilizes technology
without requiring substantial training or data conversion. We got
that with NorthStar. Our other main concern was dealing with a vendor
who has a solid base and stellar support because we were looking
for the long run. We got that piece of mind with Harris. Also, it
was a real bonus to hear that Alaska Electrical Light and Power
were purchasing NorthStar, because now we don’t have to ‘go
it alone’.”
NorthStar v6.0 is a Java 2 Enterprise Edition application that
leverages the functionality and business processes from NorthStar
v5.2. NorthStar v6.0 utilizes an n-tier architecture providing full
separation between the client, the application, and the database.
With this technology, customers choose the operating system and
database technology that fits with their budget, strategic IT vision,
and internal skill sets.
NorthStar provides core billing, revenue tracking, and unparalleled
rate flexibility for a mid market solution. Combined with enhanced
customer management features - call and complaint tracking, automatic
service order generation, and credit control - NorthStar provides
tremendous value to fiscally responsible local governments.
