FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Northern Territory Utility
Signs Up for Proven Gentrack CIS Customer Management and Billing System
MELBOURNE, November 24, 2003 - Power
and Water Corporation (PWC), a corporatized utility owned by the Northern
Territory Government, has selected the Gentrack CIS billing and customer
information system.
Gentrack CIS was chosen after a rigorous selection
process involving vendors from around the world.
“Clearly PWC has demonstrated its confidence
in the Gentrack team’s ability to meet their functional requirements
and in our proven capability to implement the Gentrack CIS here
in Australia, where we already have five successful sites”
said Gentrack’s Australian Manager Brendan Tipple.
The decision was made at a time when utilities were
exercising extreme caution over information technology purchases
in light of publicity about Sydney Water’s legal action over
a failed CIS implementation by another vendor that required heavy
customisation.
“The close match on functional requirements,
the significant process improvements offered by this system and
overall cost reductions to be delivered by the project coupled with
the quality and experience of the Gentrack team were key factors
in our selection,” said Kim Wood, Managing Director of PWC.
PWC will use Gentrack CIS for billing both mass-market residential
and contestable interval-based electricity customers as well as
water, waste water, bulk water and other water related services
for all the consumers and businesses across the territory’s
vast area.
The software replaces a legacy customer information
system. It will deliver improved business process flexibility and
enhanced billing capabilities, giving the utility’s customers
more service options.
Australia’s changing retail energy landscape
was a driver in PWC’s decision to introduce a system with
the flexibility to adapt easily to regulatory requirements, including
any future competitors. Key to the deal was Gentrack CIS’
ability to handle with ease multiple tariff structures, create new
revenue opportunities and raise overall customer satisfaction.
Gentrack CIS provides a complete history of every
customer and account, detailing previous calls, payment preferences
and credit history and the software’s seamless interface to
the Indus work management system will ensure that Call Centre teams
have up-to-date information on the status of all service requests.
In addition, many billing processes will be automated and tariff
management improved, allowing for greater billing accuracy.
Further efficiencies will result from Gentrack CIS'
payment and credit management modules. These will allow PWC to continue
to offer a range of payment options including ETFPOS, credit card
and direct debit, budget billing (by monthly payments), as well
as introducing customer friendly debt collection programs tailored
to help people and businesses to pay off their arrears.
PWC will use the Gentrack CIS software suite V 3.4 with only minor
modifications required to ensure compliance with local legislation.
Oracle DBMS version 9i will underpin the Gentrack CIS software application,
which will be powered by Hewlett-Packard servers.
Implementation began in November with go live scheduled
for the middle of 2004. Later phases will see the introduction of
online and telephone-based customer self-service technologies.
