FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAP Named Market Leader by META Group
for Energy Utility Work Management Systems
mySAP™ Utilities Leads Global
Utility Market, with More Than 800 Customers in More Than Fifty Countries
WALLDORF, GERMANY; March 11, 2003
- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that it has been ranked as
the market leader in META Group’s recently released report,
METAspectrumSM for Energy Utility Work Management Systems. META
Group (Nasdaq: METG) is a leading research and consulting firm that
focuses on information technology and business transformation strategies.
The ranking provides further validation of the leadership of mySAP™
Utilities, which has 830 customers in fifty-six countries, in both
regulated and deregulated markets.
The new METAspectrum evaluation assesses software
vendors for solutions used by energy utility companies to manage
work and assets associated with plants, transmission, and distribution
facilities, as well as various work, inspections, maintenance, and
energy related services. Due to an expansion in the scope of work
management projects, the META evaluation also encompasses both work
management and materials management functionality.
The work management capabilities of mySAP Utilities
enable companies to manage assets, projects, and work orders for
complete power plants down to individual meters. They cover the
whole asset life cycle from installation to maintenance until re-haul
and exchange. The processing of asset and customer-related work
orders in an integrated environment ensures more efficient service
for customers. SAP’s work management offering is positioned
in the leadership segment of the METAspectrum analysis and is specifically
recognized for its strength in delivering broad functionality across
all aspects of work management and its significant level of presence
and expertise in the utility market.
“We developed METAspectrum to enable IT professionals
to quickly evaluate vendors based on their ability to deliver on
the presence and performance criteria that matter most in a given
market,” said Rick Nicholson, vice president and director,
Energy Information Strategies, META Group. “As energy utilities
refocus their efforts on the business fundamentals, they are increasing
current and planned investments in work management systems. Vendors
with broad offerings that provide integrated work management, supply
chain, mobile workforce management, and other related capabilities
will be positioned to lead in this market.”
With three decades of industry experience, SAP delivers
utility industry-specific solutions for efficient data management,
business processes, and mobile services and is one of the world’s
leading providers of integrated business solutions for the utilities
industry. mySAP Utilities holds a worldwide market share of 40 percent
in terms of user workstations. Four years after its launch, SAP’s
customer care and service capability—a key customer relationship
management capability of mySAP Utilities—is now licensed by
340 utility companies for the management of 190 million supply contracts
on electricity, gas, and water.
“Our leadership rating in the METAspectrum reports
reflects on the performance and value of SAP solutions. Our cooperation
with and our commitment to the utilities industry as well as our
strategically direct investments in product research and development
pay out now,” said Klaus Heimann, senior vice president, Industry
Business Unit Utilities at SAP AG. “Most utilities using SAP
for work management have also chosen us for enterprise applications
such as financials, human resources, and customer relationship management
for our ability to provide integrated solutions that successfully
address the challenges faced by the utilities industry.”
SAP is presenting its solutions together with its
service, technology, and small and midsize business (SMB) partners
at SAP's main booth in hall 4 at CeBIT 2003, being held in Hanover,
Germany, March 12-19.
