Oakville Hydro Selects Harris
to Solve Customer Service and Billing Challenges
OTTAWA, ONTARIO, March 10, 2003 -
Harris Computer Systems ("Harris") is pleased to announce
that Oakville Hydro Electricity Distribution Inc. ("Oakville
Hydro") has chosen the Harris PUBS v5.2 solution to replace
their current customer service and billing system. Since the deregulated
electricity market opening in May 2002, Oakville Hydro has struggled
to attain compliance with information exchange, reporting, and billing
due to deficiencies in their current Customer Information System
(CIS). With the Harris implementation, Oakville Hydro will be able
to efficiently manage the exchange of information between its customers
and energy retailers, and generate accurate bills on time.
"We have been struggling to become totally market
compliant with minimal manual intervention, and there has been a
growing sense of frustration with the system supplier. We have spent
several months looking at the alternatives, conducted extensive
consultations with other LDCs, and found Harris provides the best
solution," according to Alex Bystrin, President & CEO of
Oakville Hydro Corporation.
"We are extremely pleased to see that our customer
focus and product investments continue to be recognized by utilities
outside of our existing customer base," said Jeff Bender, President
of Harris. "We understand deregulation in Ontario and are the
only solution provider to move forward with replacing deficient
CIS solutions in the Province – a testament to our people,
our customers and our track record through the deregulation process."
Over the next three months, Oakville Hydro and Harris
will work together to implement the PUBS solution. Harris will provide
all of the required professional services to configure the PUBS
application, convert existing customer data, and train Oakville
Hydro staff. Harris will also provide a heightened level of support
through the parallel and post live periods to ensure a successful
implementation.
Deregulation of the Ontario electricity market has
had a profound impact on all market participants including local
utilities, customers, retailers, the government, as well as software
vendors. The underlying structure and functional requirements of
the deregulated marketplace have created a tremendous amount of
stress on existing systems. The resultant outcome is that many CIS
vendors have failed their local utility customers. These failures
have driven up cost, created uncertainty, and delayed utilities
from proceeding with legislative changes and improvements.
Harris customers have been an exception. Since the
onset of deregulation, Harris has provided its customers with superior
support and the necessary tools to facilitate market conversion.
Today, over 20 Ontario local utilities and one of the Province’s
largest energy retailers, rely on the Harris PUBS v5.2 to manage
their customer service and billing requirements. Harris is the system
of choice for post market opening conversions. While the majority
of utilities are still focused and consumed with deploying deregulation,
Harris and its customers are moving forward and focusing on generating
incremental and new revenue opportunities as well as creating operational
efficiencies.
