City of Buffalo Extends Services to Citizens Through Hansen's Online Permitting Software Application

SACRAMENTO, CA., January 10, 2003 - Hansen Information Technologies, the leading provider of solutions for government operations, today announced that the City of Buffalo, New York has gone live with the company's DynamicPORTAL™ Web solution. The City is working through Hansen Information Technologies - Canada, Inc. To implement an intuitive portal that gives the City's citizens the ability to manage the permit application process over the Internet. In less than four months, contractors and other citizens have accessed the City's Web site to apply for over 2,000 permits. The City has collected more than $25,000 in permit application fees.

"Hansen's DynamicPORTAL has enabled the City of Buffalo to move to a proactive position with our permit application process," said Anthony M. Masiello, mayor for the City of Buffalo. "Hansen has made it easy for us to streamline a complex process and provide easy access to our citizens using the Internet."

"Not only has citizen feedback been overwhelmingly positive, the City's staff can't believe how easy Hansen's DynamicPORTAL Web application is to administer," said Michael Rivera, Systems Analyst for the City of Buffalo. "The integration with our financial system has significantly improved the workflow from each City department. We have collected over $25,000 through online transactions via our Web site in a matter of months. This is remarkable considering that the average permit fee is $40. We are now hearing feedback from staff members in other departments who want to do online payments for all types of applications."

The City of Buffalo has been a Hansen client since 1998. Originally, the City implemented Hansen's Community Development and Regulation Solution for building and planning in its Department of Permit and Inspections Services. The solution enables the City to effectively manage all of its critical information and data involved in permitting, inspections and court case tracking. The project to extend the City's permitting application process to the Internet using Hansen's DynamicPORTAL solution began in March of this year.

"The City of Buffalo exemplifies how Hansen solutions streamline workflow, reduce operational inefficiencies and improve citizen-to-government connectivity," said Rob Corazzola, President of Hansen Information Technologies - Canada Inc. "In the past year, we have seen governments shifting towards offering services to their citizens through the Internet. An even more significant trend is the move many public agencies are making to connect their back-office data management applications and citizen-based services to the Web in order to optimize business processes across multiple departments."
