FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City of Salem, Oregon Selects Hansen for Utility Billing and Customer
Service
SACRAMENTO, CA., August 6, 2002 - Hansen Information Technologies
today announced that the City of Salem, Oregon's Public Works department
selected the company's Customer Information Systems (CIS) solution
for water and sewer billing. The system will improve Salem's customer
service, billing practices, asset record keeping, business processes
and decision support. The Hansen contract includes software
licensing, project management, data migration services, system integration
and training.
The City of Salem's Public Works Department has been a Hansen customer
since the early 1980s and will add the Billing and CIS software
to its existing Hansen Street, Water, Sewer and Customer Services
modules.
"Hansen is an outstanding vendor who meets all of our system
requirements. The system has desirable features and provides
great flexibility," Deborah Herman, Customer Services Manager
said. "The system will meet Salem's current and future needs
of Utility Billing."
The Public Works Department will replace a 28-year-old legacy system
with the Hansen solution making it easier to manage water/sewer
account billing and streamline collection activities. Hansen's CIS
solution, which includes Utility Billing, Citizen Relationship Management
(CRM) and Cashiering, provides advanced tools for tracking consumption,
staging billing and processing collections. The software includes
formula-based bill calculations, GIS integration and CASS database
support for mass mailing.
The City bills approximately 46,000 separate customer accounts
for water/sewer and sewer. They receive 4,400 service and information
calls a month. It provides wholesale and retail water and sewer
services for approximately 200,000 residential, commercial, and
industrial users. An average of 29 million gallons of water is used
per day, with summer peak usage at 60 million gallons per day.
The system's implementation begins immediately with anticipated
completion in nine months. Future considerations include using Hansen's
DynamicPORTAL™ to broaden citizen-to-government access via
the Web and Hansen Mobile Solutions for completing electronic work
orders in the field.
