SCT Helps Vectren Successfully Integrate
Three Utilities
IBM Plays Key Role in Project
Success
MALVERN, PA., May 8, 2002 - SCT (Nasdaq: SCTC), a
leading global provider of e-business solutions for utilities, announced
that Vectren Corporation (NYSE:VVC) has successfully implemented
SCT's Banner Customer Information System (CIS) to combine three
separate utility customer information systems into one integrated
billing system. The new system went into full live production on
March 1, 2002.
Vectren, through its subsidiaries serves one million gas and electric
customers throughout Indiana and Ohio.
In August 2000, Vectren faced the challenge of consolidating three
CIS utilities into one billing system. As an energy and applied
technology holding company, Vectren made an early strategic decision
to find a CIS system that could easily be integrated with few modifications
and a vendor that stays abreast with developments in the energy
market. Vectren chose SCT Banner CIS because it proved to be the
most cost-effective packaged solution. In addition, installing SCT
Banner required only minor customization of Vectren's business processes
to coincide with the business processes within the new system.
Cost savings immediately followed the first stage of implementation
in August 2000 for Vectren in maintenance, IT costs, and licensing.
Vectren also anticipates cost savings with Banner CIS's ability
to provide faster response time, customer self-service including
interactive voice response, and Web access.
IBM and SCT worked alongside Vectren to help make this implementation
happen. IBM served as Vectren's strength in getting the SCT Banner
system integrated within the three energy companies. SCT delivered
the codes and minimal modifications needed to get the system running,
while a team from Vectren collaborated with both groups along the
way.
"Before choosing Banner CIS, we had a strategic direction focused
on packaged software with minimal modification instead of custom
software," said Rick Schach, CIO and vice president of information
technology for Vectren. "Banner CIS was able to give us what
we were looking for and more. We assessed the strengths of our vendors
so that we could get the system running efficiently. We are pleased
and proud of how well the teams worked together and what we have
accomplished in an incredibly short period of time."
"For companies like Vectren, Banner CIS is the most cost-effective
packaged solution that can easily meet their needs," said John
Gregg, president of SCT global energy and utilities solutions. "Vectren
needed a business process to integrate three companies without the
added expense of custom modification. Banner CIS is designed to
support the unique, strategic business plans of energy and utilities
companies of all types and sizes."
"For SCT and Vectren, IBM provided the project integration
methodology which included project management processes, development
guideline processes, testing strategies and processes, and resources
to assist in testing, development, and infrastructure implementation,"
said David Samuel, general manager of IBM's Utilities Industry.
"It is our intent to provide effective solutions that will
enable our energy company customers to address the increasing service
level expectations of their customers, and the work that our IBM
Global Services Team has done with SCT is a prime example."
Vectren was formed by the merger of SIGCORP, Inc., parent of Southern
Indiana Gas & Electric Company (SIGECO); and Indiana Energy,
Inc., holding company for Indiana Gas Company. In addition, Vectren
recently completed the acquisition of the Dayton (OH) Power and
Light Company's natural gas assets.
