FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City Water, Light & Power of Springfield Illinois Selects Advanced Utility Systems to supply CIS Solution

TORONTO, CANADA; January 28, 2002 - Advanced Utility Systems Corporation (Advanced) is pleased to announce that City Water, Light & Power has chosen to work with Advanced to provide a new Customer Information System for the City of Springfield, Illinois. The two organizations finalized the contract to supply CIS Infinity, the Customer Information and Customer Relationship Management solution provided by Advanced, on a license basis in August, and the implementation began in October.

City Water Light & Power (CWLP) provides electric and water services to over 117,000 residents and businesses in the City of Springfield and surrounding areas. Both Water and Electricity are currently billed on a combined bill, which will continue with CIS Infinity. In addition flat-rate services such as private outdoor lighting or indoor fire sprinkling systems charges, which are currently billed as stand-alone services, will be added to provide customers with a single combined bill. Implementation will continue throughout 2002, with a target go-live date established for the fourth quarter of 2002.

In evaluating CIS solutions CWLP had several goals in mind. Customer needs were crucial, as were the needs of employees. Lois Wolff, the Project Manager for the project, and the leader of the evaluation committee, was looking for a solution that could enhance CWLP’s existing service offering, while at the same time ensure full employee buy-in was obtained. “ We were looking for a user-friendly CIS solution which employees could learn and operate comfortably and smoothly. This meant the software had to be designed in an intuitive, straightforward manner, and be easy to navigate, and the vendor had to supply us with a comprehensive training and teaching program” said Lois. She added, “Throughout the process we have focused – and will focus in the future - on keeping our employees informed and involved with how the implementation process is progressing.”

CWLP will be using the numerous control files built into CIS Infinity to implement the software in a way that meets its unique operating requirements. Efforts are already underway to complete the customizations identified by a Gap analysis. Upon completion, the development team at Advanced projects this stage of the work effort will provide CWLP with the modern, comprehensive solution they are seeking.

“CWLP has placed its customer needs as a top priority in selecting a new CIS system” said Patricia Sorbara, the President and CEO of Advanced Utility Systems. She added “ CWLP has balanced the difficult goal of implementing new software with minimal disruption to customers, while introducing new functions and features to enhance service in the future. The utility will be using the majority of the CIS Infinity modules, and thereby enhance the value it will receive.”
