FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Excelergy Connects American Electric Power to ERCOT
Excelergy eXACT for Wholesale Markets now available to enable rapid certification for all ERCOT market participants

LEXINGTON, MA., July 23, 2001 - Excelergy Corporation, provider of the world's most advanced software products and technologies for managing inter-company collaboration in restructuring markets, has successfully implemented the Excelergy eXACT for Wholesale MarketsTM software product to enable American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) to become fully certified for automated data exchange in ERCOT.

"AEP has been using Excelergy's software products to bid, schedule and dispatch 10,000 megawatts of generation into the ERCOT market. We are pleased with the rapid deployment of their scalable and configurable product," said Dave Banks, vice president of business systems for AEP Energy Services. "Thanks to the quick implementation, we are well prepared to collaborate with the ERCOT ISO immediately upon the market opening. We expect to leverage our successful ERCOT experience with Excelergy eXACT at other FERC-mandated RTOs and ISOs nationwide."

ERCOT (the Electric Reliability Council of Texas) is the corporation administering the state's power grid and is scheduled to open the $16 billion Texas electricity market to competition in the coming weeks. AEP currently operates approximately one-seventh of ERCOT's daily energy capacity.

AEP is currently using Excelergy eXACT for Wholesale Markets in conjunction with Excelergy eXACT for Energy TradingTM. The combined platform manages traditional trading activities as well as real-time messaging with generation control systems and external grid operators. This integrated approach provides straight-through processing from trade capture to generation dispatch to settlement.

"This is now available for immediate use by all ERCOT market participants who are looking to quickly and profitably compete in the wholesale Texas market," said Bill Mahoney, Excelergy's president and chief executive officer. "Our selection and implementation at such a global powerhouse as AEP validates what the high-performance Excelergy eXACT family of products offers - a high-speed, low-risk, high-efficiency approach that reduces costs and improves the bottom line."

Excelergy eXACT for Wholesale Markets rapidly connects market participants in restructuring energy markets managed by independent system operators

(ISOs) and regional transmission organizations (RTOs). It manages collaboration among wholesale market players and grid operators using a single application and single database for all transactions in multiple markets. It automatically accepts, validates and sends transactions such as offers/bids, schedules, generation dispatches, notifications and settlements between trading partners and grid operators - without the need for multiple dedicated staff to enter, validate and send data manually. "Excelergy eXACT for Wholesale Markets is a configuration of the same high-performance Excelergy product that's been so successfully and extensively road-tested in competitive retail markets," added Mahoney. "We simply extended Excelergy eXACT to include the wholesale transaction set and communications protocol adaptor, and for ERCOT we've achieved certification with AEP with no customization."

In addition to ERCOT, Excelergy eXACT for Wholesale Markets is capable of supporting transactions and protocols for California, New England, PJM (Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland), New York, Ontario, Alberta, NETA (United

Kingdom) - as well as the FERC-mandated larger regional RTOs covering the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West regions. It integrates seamlessly with the technology infrastructure of existing market participants, including middleware, risk management and trading platforms.
