FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto Hydro-Electric System Ltd
Selects Excelergy's Collaboration Software
North America's second largest
municipal utility installs Excelergy eXACT to manage inter-company
collaboration in Canada's leading restructuring energy market
TORONTO, ONTARIO CANADA and LEXINGTON, MA., June 4, 2001 - Excelergy
Corporation, provider of the world's most advanced software products
and technologies for managing inter-company collaboration in restructuring
markets, has signed an agreement to provide Toronto Hydro-Electric
System Limited with its Excelergy eXACT* for Trading Partner Management
software product. Toronto Hydro-Electric System Ltd. serves
more than 650,000 customers and distributes approximately 25 percent
of Ontario's electricity.
"The opening of the Ontario market provided us the opportunity
to implement software to manage our relationships with all the different
companies who'll be sharing the same customer," said Connie
Woo, chief information officer of parent company Toronto Hydro Corporation.
"We chose Excelergy because they have a proven record of installing
systems
that minimize business risk and lower overall IT costs."
Toronto Hydro-Electric System Ltd. is installing Excelergy's software
to extend the functionality of the utility's existing customer information
system, SCT Banner*. Excelergy eXACT for Trading Partner Management
will now serve as the primary gateway for all data transactions
with the growing number of businesses preparing to operate in the
restructuring
Ontario electricity market, scheduled to open to competition in
2002.
The XML-based product will translate, validate and securely transmit
customer data between Toronto Hydro-Electric System Ltd. and its
trading partners through Ontario's electronic transaction clearinghouse
hub. Named EBT Express (for Electronic Business Transactions),
the hub will allow Ontario's approximately 90 regulated distribution
companies and the expected 25 or more new energy service providers
to communicate data with each other electronically in order to attract
and serve Ontario's four million energy customers. Excelergy eXACT
also was used as the technology backbone behind EBT Express, which
was formed in October 2000.
"The high performance object-based technology at the heart
of Excelergy's products gives us a unique advantage over competing
offerings," said Bill Mahoney, Excelergy president and chief
executive officer. "It allows our clients to automatically
manage their most critical intermediary relationships through highly
accurate shared business processes. This translates directly into
increased revenue and cash flow with lower overall costs and risks."
