FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCT Brings together 4,700 Clients
from Higher Education, Utilities, Process Manufacturing, and Government
at Its "Power of Partnership" Combined Users Conference
in Toronto
More Than 5,500 Attend SCT
Summit 2001, the Largest, Longest-Running Users Group Meeting for
Administrative Software in Higher Education; Now Includes Clients
from SCT's Four Vertical Industries
TORONTO, CANADA, April 9, 2001 - What do leading universities
from five continents, multinational food and chemical companies,
justice departments for local governments, as well as regulated
and deregulating utilities companies have in common? For the first
time, SCT (NASDAQ: SCTC), a leading global provider of e-business
solutions, brings together these clients from its four served industries
- education; energy, utilities, & communications; process manufacturing
& distribution; and government -- for its annual users conference,
SCT Summit 2001. In addition to these 4, 700 users of SCT solutions,
nearly 60 strategic alliance partners will be exhibiting at the
conference from April 8 to 11, 2001.
Chairman and CEO Michael J. Emmi emphasized SCT's focus on the
"power of partnership" in his keynote address to the record-breaking
crowd at yesterday's conference opening at the Metro Toronto Convention
Centre. In attendance were SCT global software and services clients
from five continents, 21 countries, 48 states and the District of
Columbia, as well as from 9 Canadian provinces. Product education,
information exchange, client interaction, and sharing the SCT vision
for the future with a broad range of clients -- new, experienced,
small, large -- led the list of conference priorities.
"This is an exciting first for SCT, and we are capitalizing
on a growing synergy among our clients in four vertical markets
- together in one place and time," Emmi said. "A meeting
of the minds such as this allows us to build into SCT solutions
our clients' expertise, best practices, and experience, and it deepens
our considerable industry immersion and focus. And with over 70%
of our 600 Summit sessions being client-led, it's clear that our
users group team members are drawing inspiration and information
from each other as well," he added.
SCT Summit is the largest and longest-running users group meeting
for administrative software in higher education. Clients from virtually
all types and sizes of institution -- public, private, state systems,
research institutions, community colleges, and medical schools --
together celebrate their mutual vision and commitment to delivering
the best in education to their students.
"SCT knows more about the higher education market than any
other ERP vendor," said Professor Roger Rigelhof, Banner project
director at McGill University in Canada. "A key reason we chose
SCT is because they have many proven applications in place in higher
education. In addition, SCT is moving to a more global view and
is thinking about the fit of data systems in other countries. That
is an important and positive initiative."
SCT is also the leader in business solutions designed for the process
manufacturing and distribution industries, with solutions that are
flexible and tailored to a client's specific e-business or supply
chain needs. The iProcess.sct solution provides supply chain planning,
collaborative Internet commerce, relationship network management
and supply chain execution capabilities to serve the food and beverage,
chemical, pharmaceutical, consumer packaged goods, biotechnology
and related process industries. With iProcess.sct, SCT clients are
able to maximize value in their supply chains and commerce networks
through collaboration, supply chain optimization and e-CRM capabilities.
At Summit 2001, keynote presentations by leading industry analysts
on current market issues, as well as demonstrations of an expanded
array of new components, releases, and alliances will support SCT's
recently announced vision of the "commerce network." This
expanded vision, coined "Collaboration in Process," brings
focus to the increasing significance of collaboration in supply
chains -- among a complex relationship network of customers, suppliers,
exchanges, brokers and third-party service providers. SCT will also
introduce at the conference enhanced e-CRM capabilities to the iProcess.sct
solution, which will make it possible for companies to extend Internet
commerce applications by providing on-line communications and call
center capabilities that improve customer interaction.
In the energy market, where increasing deregulation has led to
fierce competition for the consumer's attention and choice in North
America and globally, SCT's Banner suite of technology products,
services and other e-CRM solutions support more than 200 clients
around the world. Thirty-eight million utility services' bills are
generated monthly with SCT solutions. The company's leading-edge
software and services enable comprehensive customer aggregation
and fulfillment strategies for clients -- utilities, energy service
companies, and communications companies -- moving aggressively into
the age of deregulation.
Last month, SCT and Toronto-based Enlogix, North America's leading
energy billing service provider and a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Westcoast Energy, Inc. (TSE: W; NYSE: WE), announced an agreement
aimed at penetrating the deregulating utilities in Canada and the
U.S. The agreement was signed in SCT's first fiscal quarter ending
December 31, 2000. The SCT Summit will give SCT and Enlogix energy
clients the chance to hear about this strengthened new relationship
firsthand. Enlogix will provide its CIS services in partnership
with SCT in both Canada and the United States, as well as remain
the exclusive reseller of SCT's Banner products in Canada.
"As energy markets deregulate, even more consumers across
North America will now have the choice to opt for gas, electricity
and related services from suppliers taking advantage of our combined
technologies," said Anthony Haines, president and CEO of Toronto-based
Enlogix. "For those established players in the electric and
gas industry, it is essential that they improve their customer interaction
in order to retain their customer base. For the new players, it
is a matter of attracting new customers with the best possible service
offering available. Given SCT's dominance in the North American
utilities industry, we could have no stronger technical and marketing
partner."
Users of SCT's government solutions software and services include
more than 1,100 federal, state, and local governments, courts, and
public agencies worldwide. From administrative and self-service
applications to consulting, e-government, digital justice and outsourcing,
SCT helps public sector organizations align IT resources with strategic
objectives, increase constituent satisfaction, and keep pace with
technology.
SCT recently began a public/private IT outsourcing partnership
with the City of Memphis, valued at more than $50 million, helping
the government to align IT resources with strategic objectives,
increase constituent satisfaction, and keep pace with technology.
The contract was signed in SCT's second fiscal quarter ending March
31, 2001.
In the government solutions arena, a major focus is on strategic
partnerships that speed technology solutions to clients and connect
them to their constituents with better, faster services. Among the
new justice solutions partners participating in this year's conference
is Computing System Innovations (CSI). In partnership with CSI,
SCT is integrating their market leading SCT Courts case management
system with CSI's InCourt module. This powerful combination of tools
allows courts to process all case-related work in real-time in the
courtroom, even during the busiest high-volume sessions, eliminating
duplicated efforts and delayed processing. Now constituents can
leave the court with their paperwork in hand, their fines paid,
and all business transactions completed. CSI also offers R-Stream
and TrakMan, unique solutions that track physical objects, including
case files and evidence, using on-line, bar coding, and radio frequency
identification (RFID) tracking technology.
