FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAIC'S North American Integrated
Services Management Center Certified by BSI for ISO 9001:2000 Standard
OAK RIDGE, TN., April 3, 2001 - Science Applications International
Corporation (SAIC) today announced that its North American Integrated
Services Management Center (NAISMC) has completed its ISO audit
and has been recommended by the British Standards Institution (BSI)
for certification.
The NAISMC operation is only the second organization to be ISO
9001:2000 certified by BSI. The standard was released in December
2000, and SAIC was certified just four months after the audit was
initiated. Capabilities covered by the certification include the
implementation, integration, operation and support of mainframe,
midrange, client-server, desktop and network-based information systems
with provisions for help desk and infrastructure security activities.
The NAISMC, which opened in mid-1999, provides information technology
(IT) services including system, network, call center and desktop
services to the three Department of Energy management and operating
contractors in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and seven other commercial and
government customers.
"The ISO 9001:2000 certification validates SAIC's recognized
strengths in the IT infrastructure services market, including our
commitment to quality and client satisfaction," said SAIC Group
Senior Vice President Bob Cann. "In Oak Ridge, we have assembled
and now have certified a professional team that provides mission-critical
enterprise management and desktop management solutions and services."
"By achieving this certification, we have demonstrated that
SAIC is a superior outsourcing provider," said SAIC Sector
Vice President Ed Martin, M.D.
International Organization of Standardization
The ISO family of standards, as developed by the International Organization
of Standardization (www.iso.ch),
represents an internationally recognized accord on good management
practices. The aim of the ISO standards is to add value to all types
of business operations by ensuring that organizations can consistently
deliver products or services that meet clients' quality requirements.
Specifically, ISO 9001 represents a standard for quality assurance
in design, development, production, installation and servicing.
It provides a firm basis for organizations to build quality at every
level into their product or service through a series of documented,
repeatable processes.
