(Nasdaq:HTEI), a leading provider of enterprise-wide software solutions for public sector organizations and utilities worldwide, today announced that Barrie Hydro, Ontario, Canada, has signed a contract worth $335,300 to license software which will enable it to improve customer service and comply with Ontario's new requirements for deregulated utilities.

Barrie Hydro licensed HTE's Customer Information System (CIS), Contract Billing, Cash Receipts, Land Management, Menu Driver and the Canada-specific Real-time Pricing module.

"HTE has earned widespread industry acceptance for its utility solution's ability to meet deregulation requirements in Canada," said Kim Taylor, supervisor of information systems for Barrie Hydro. "It is evident that a lot of thought went into the programming. We are very impressed with the functionality and the ease of use."

Utilities throughout the province are working to comply with new guidelines developed by the Ontario Energy Board tocreate a competitive market for electricity customers and reduce energy costs. The guidelines put new demands on the utilities' information systems.

With Barrie recently named the fastest growing city in Canada, the Hydro Company was seeking ways tostreamline its operations and effectively deal with its rapidly expanding customer base.

"One feature our staff is really excited about is the way CIS handles moving orders. Transferring service was difficult with our old system, but now, it's extremely simple and fast," Taylor said.

Other Canadian utilities using HTE products are Guelph Hydro, Sudbury Hydro, Thunder Bay Hydro, Great Lakes Power, North Bay Hydro and Halton Hills Hydro. HTE has more than 100 customers throughout Canada.
