NEWS 2000: Sep21 City Gas Company of Florida Unveils New Call Center; Improves Customer Service, Creates Jobs

BEDMINSTER, N.J., September 21, 2000, (BUSINESS WIRE) - City Gas Company of Florida, a division of NUI Corporation (NYSE:NUI) of Bedminster, NJ, opened a new customer call center in Hialeah today, a facility which provides improved service to Customers through extended hours and has created 47 new jobs within the community.

The opening of the new center, commemorated in a grand opening this morning at 10:45 a.m., completes a consolidation of NUI Corporation's two major call centers into one facility.

"The new call center represents a further commitment by NUI and City Gas to the greater Miami community," said Richard Gruber, vice president of marketing and customer care at NUI. "We're particularly happy to locate the facility in the Hialeah Enterprise Zone and create new jobs to Support this facility. As our business grows so will our need for additional qualified people."

The Grand Opening featured a ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by Gruber. Also attending the ceremony were Alex Penelas, Mayor of Miami-Dade County; Frank Nero, chief executive officer of the Beacon Council, a local economic development group committed to Continued development of Hialeah and the county; and Carlos Leonard, senior vice president of the council. Later in the afternoon, Penelas presented Gruber with a key to the city in appreciation for NUI's commitment and support.

"The Miami area offers NUI the three key features required to operate a world class call center operation; a large and multi-lingual talent pool, access to telecommunications and technology infrastructure and a competitive operating cost structure," said Gruber. "The center will be capable of handling up to6,000 calls a day, or 1.2 million calls a year, a significant increase from our present capability."
