Soliance Wins Information Services Contract with San Antonio Utility

SAN DIEGO, CA., September 12, 2000 -(BUSINESS WIRE) - Soliance, the San Diego-based total information solutions provider for the energy industry, today announced it has won the first phase of a $46.8 million information systems contract with City Public Service (CPS), the municipally owned gas and electric utility that serves San Antonio.

Soliance will work with a team of CPS employees to Upgrade the San Antonio utility's computer systems in the areas of customer information, work management, financial information and materials management. CPS awarded Soliance the initial contract last month.

This month Soliance will start the planning phase, which involves refining project scope, scheduling and staffing. After the initial business process definition and prototyping phase is complete, CPS will award the contract for the implementation of the project, for which Soliance will be a primary contender.

The Soliance team of professionals has the level of expertise needed to help modernize the utility's enterprise application systems in a manner that will maintain flexibility and reliability as the business demands of the industry change.

The technology platform Soliance will use is from the well-regarded software companies SAP and Logica. These programs will support distribution of gas and electric services to the city of San Antonio and surrounding areas as CPS prepares for entry into a deregulated electric utility environment. The implementation will replace the current legacy systems CPS uses and provide a more integrated application architecture whereby all the different systems will have the capability to communicate with each other over a Web-enabled system.

"Our legacy systems have served our customers well for many years. This project is a significant component in CPS' ongoing efforts to keep costs low and drive quality of service up into the future," said Tracy McCuan, CPS' project director.

"Utilities need billing and customer-service information systems that position them well in a competitive marketplace," said Dale Kelly-Cochrane, president of Soliance. "We provide a solution that enables them to create and update their customer information and financial systems with turn-key flexibility."

This is the first municipal utility project for the newly formed Soliance.

"This project will give us a chance to demonstrate that large-scale enterprise system replacements can be achieved with minimized risk to the customer," said Hagen Ruff, Soliance vice president for solutions delivery.

"Soliance's best-practice templates for the deregulating utilities market, in conjunction with our software packages designed for the energy industry, offer a tailored solution," Ruff said.
