MALVERN, PA., August 30, 2000 — SCT (Nasdaq:SCTC), a leading
global provider of industry-immersed e-solutions for the energy,
utility and communications industries, today announced that TorontoHydro has upgraded and expanded its implementation of the SCT
Banner® Customer Information System (CIS) solution to serve
an additional 450,000 customers for a total Toronto-area customer
count of 680,000.
TorontoHydro is the result of a 1998 government mandate that
consolidated six existing utilities under one name in the Torontoarea - Etobicoke, East York, North York, Scarborough, Toronto and York. The new company was faced with the complex challenge
of implementing a unified customer information system with minimal
disruption of service to its diverse customer base, within the
context of market restructuring in the province of Ontario. TorontoHydro will not only expand the Banner system's customer count,
but also position themselves for market expansion as a result
of restructuring, by functionally and technically upgrading the
Banner system first implemented in 1998.
"The opening of the Ontario energy market continues to have
an impact upon the industry and to severely test the competitive
strength of its energy providers," said Bill Mahoney, president
of SCT's global energy, utility and communications solutions business.
"TorontoHydro
faces multifaceted changes during this critical, transitional
period. SCT offers solutions that enable clients like TorontoHydro to compete successfully during this time."
