Formed by 25 leading technology companies in May of 1999, the ASPIC is an international advocacy group supporting the ASP industry by establishing guidelines for business practices, sponsoring research, educating the marketplace, and promoting best practices. Its 600 members benefit from the generation of notable business opportunities and continued industry direction setting. Members have access to industry research, the advantage of collaborative efforts of all members, and the opportunity to be part of promotional and educational activities.

The Consortium's work is carried out through five committees through which they promote key initiatives, these are: Education, Best Practices, Membership, Research, and End Users Committee. According to the Consortium ASPs give customers a viable alternative to procuring and implementing complex systems themselves. ASPs provide customers with a comprehensive alternative to building and managing internal information technology operations. ASP customers are better able to control the total cost of technology ownership through scheduled payment schemes.
