MALVERN, PA., May 2, 2000 - SCT (Nasdaq: SCTC), a leading
provider of advanced software solutions for utilities, energy
service providers and communications companies, announced today
the expansion of Banner Customer Management Suite (CMS) at TorontoHydro.
Agreements for the announced deal were executed in SCT’s second
quarter ended March 31, 2000.
As part of the engagement, SCT will be extending the current
Banner system at TorontoHydro to Support an amalgamation of utilities
in the Torontometro area. In addition to expansion of the TorontoHydro
license and the provision by SCT of associated technical support,
an additional services engagement has been put in place that will
help prepare the new amalgamation for doing business in a deregulated
marketplace, which begins November 2000. The value of the additional
licensing rights and the expanded services could exceed U.S. $2
million, if TorontoHydro utilizes all of the SCT-proposed services.
Prior to1998, six utility companies—Etobicoke, East York, North
York, Scarborough, Toronto, and York—served the Torontometro area.
After government legislation required that the companies consolidate
under one name—TorontoHydro—the new company was faced with the
challenge of implementing a unified customer information system.
As SCT’s Banner CMS was already being successfully utilized by
the original Torontoutility, TorontoHydro led the way in making
the decision to expand Banner CMS in order to integrate and support
the needs of the amalgamated company’s 650,000 customers it will
serve.
to empower TorontoHydro in the newly competitive deregulated
marketplace, SCT will be migrating TorontoHydro to the 2.2.2 version
of Banner CMS to Support new billing requirements and Electronic
Data Interchange (EDI).
“Consolidating customer data from several companies into a single
customer information system is vital to Delivering quality service
to our customers, especially as we move into a deregulated environment,”
says Susan Davidson, vice president of customer care at TorontoHydro.
“Our company chose SCT Banner as the best CMS to Support this
important transition. The Toronto municipal amalgamation and the
opening of the Ontario energy market, which led to this expansion
of TorontoHydro’s customer base, is very significant,” says Bill
Mahoney, president, SCT’s Global Energy, Utility & Communications
Solutions business unit. “Prior to taking this next step, TorontoHydro
performed an extensive reevaluation of the CIS/CRM solutions marketplace.
The fact that TorontoHydro chose to migrate and expand Banner
to Support their needs reaffirms our position as the solutions
provider of choice for today’s progressive deregulating utility
companies.”
TorontoHydro has been an SCT Banner client since December 1996.
