FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Electricite de France
Selects SPL WorldGroup's CIS PLUS Customer Information System for
Its Commercial and Industrial Customers
New Software Prepares EDF for Future Growth Following European Deregulation
SAN FRANCISCO, CA., March 13, 2000 - SPL WorldGroup, Inc.
(SPL), a leading international provider of information technology
(IT) consulting and enterprise solutions, today announced that Electricite
De France (EDF) licensed its CIS PLUSŪ solution. CIS PLUS is considered
the premiere customer information system(CIS) for the utilities
industry worldwide. The multi-million dollar contract with EDF,
France's primary electricity provider and the largest power producer
worldwide, provides the company with a new CIS for its largest commercial
and industrial customers. SPL's professional services staff will
be supported by Cap Gemini Group, the largest European computer
services and IT consulting company, to provide all of the systems
integration services for the implementation. As a result, the implementation
provides EDF with increased flexibility in its customer service
activities.
EDF is a publicly-owned utility and as Europe initiates deregulation
in the power industry, the need to stay competitive is imperative.
SPL provides a French-speaking product that supports all the necessary
requirements facing a European utility. CIS PLUS allows EDF the
opportunity to stay competitive and provide services outside their
own territory "SPL is very proud of its track record. The fact
that CIS PLUS is implemented in leading utilities throughout Australia
and in the US, where deregulation is moving forward quickly, allowed
EDF to recognize CIS PLUS' flexibility in managing opportunities
brought on by deregulation," explains Julian Brandes, Executive
Vice President, Global Practice at SPL WorldGroup. "In addition,
SPL and Cap Gemini worked closely with EDF's staff on an in-depth
and detailed gap analysis prior to the sale. Their people are very
savvy, extremely thorough and professional. We believe the detailed
nature of this analysis sealed the deal for SPL."
EDF licensed CIS PLUS for 400,000 of its industrial and commercial
customers. The first phase of the SPL system implementation targets
EDF's largest 5,000 customers. "The challenge for today's utility
market, as it faces deregulation, is flexibility in order to remain
effective in the face of ever-changing circumstances," continues
Brandes. "Products serving this market need to have the capacity
to adapt swiftly to new regulatory requirements, improve customer
service operations, support flexible rates, and enable companies
to expand their geographical reach. SPL meets and exceeds those
challenges."
In order to further enhance and add to its international presence,
SPL recently established two European offices in Paris, France and
London, England. For contact information please visit www.splwg.com/offices.
About EDF Founded in 1946, EDF formed out of France's desire to
develop a national electrical utility that would support the country's
restoration after the World War II. Its charter is in the fields
of electricity generation, transmission, distribution and utility
management. Today, the company's 30 million customers in France,
sales revenue of over FRF190 billion and electricity output of over
450 billion kWh, together with more than 13 million customers abroad,
make Electricite de France one of the world's leading power utilities.
