Central Hudson Opens Internet Shopping
Mall
ATLANTA, GA., March 06, 2000 - Central Hudson Gas &
Electric Corporation (NYSE: CHG) opened the doors to its
new Energy Mall this week. Unlike traditional malls, however, shoppers
don't have to leave home to browse the stores and check out the
merchandise. Central Hudson's Energy Mall, which features energy-related
products and services as well as links to sites such as Barnes &
Noble, is just a mouse click away when visiting the company's Web
Site at www.centralhudson.com. Its another example of the value-added
services available on the utility's Web site, which already offers
customers the online ability to pay bills, input meter readings,
check billing status, report service interruptions or seek answers
toe-mail inquiries.
"We're working hard to add services that provide value to
our Internet visitors," said John Glusko, Central Hudson's
manager of marketing, economic development and energy services.
"Residential and commercial customers already had the ability
to conduct an online energy audit to understand how they use energy
and what they can do to use it more efficiently. The Energy Mall
was a natural next step."
Central Hudson's Energy Mall features the following stores:
- Barnes & Noble - one of the worlds largest online book,
music and magazine distributors;
- Electric Outlet - electric gadgets and appliances to make life
easier;
- Honeywell - electrical energy products for the home;
- EFI Energy Efficiency Store - energy efficient lighting-related
products; and
- Central Hudson Direct - Central Hudson's own energy solutions-based
store offering products and services to its customers.
More stores and services will be added in the future.
Central Hudson's online Energy DepotŪ audit and the Energy Mall
were both designed and implemented for the utility by Enercom, Inc.,
the nation's leading developer and provider of Internet-based energy
software applications. According to Paul Conlan, Enercom's president
and CEO, consumer use of the Internet will continue to drive the
need for energy companies to Offer meaningful and results-oriented
information and services to their Web-savvy customers.
"According to industry research, there were approximately
109 million Internet users spending $95 billion as of the end of
1999. Energy companies that offer value-added services and products
will be able to capture new customers, as well as increase revenue,
customer satisfaction and brand equity." Conlan added that
the company's applications are developed and branded for each energy
company's Web site, and that organizations can customize their Energy
