Peace Software Supports
Oracle and Adopts Enterprise Java Beans to provide Advanced Web-based
CRM and Billing Services to Utility Consumers
Peace Software Helps Bring Deregulated
Utility Industry to the Internet
ATLANTA, GA., October 19, 1999 - Peace Software International
today announced that its Energy software will support the
Oracle8i database and Sun's Enterprise Java Beans, embedded in the
BEA WebLogic Server, to enable utility consumers to quickly and
reliably access customer-case services via the Internet.
Fourteen states have already opened up their energy markets to competition, and utility companies are looking to service their
customers over the Internet to Reduce corporate costs and improve
customer service. Energy, a comprehensive customer management
and billing system is designed to address the needs of utilities
in deregulating markets. A unique browser-user interface enables
utility customers to easily access service provider web sites for
interactive information about billing, utility usage, and support.
Peace Energy's support of Oracle8i Enterprise Edition will
further establish Peace's presence in the U.S. utility market, since
the Oracle database has majority marketshare in North America. Peace
will launch a beta program for Energy in November with its
worldwide customers before the product's final release in 2000.
Leveraging the experience gained in the New Zealand and Australian
deregulated utility markets, Peace is expanding rapidly in the North
American market. Customers in North America include Enron, BCGas
and InSITE, Pepco, Columbia Energy Services and Excelen, with the
majority of these accounts being won in the last nine months.
"The Peace Energy solution is at the forefront of sophisticated,
web-based customer-information systems for the utility industry,
and Peace's innovative technology will help utility customers gain
a competitive edge as they battle to win marketshare in the deregulated
market," said Brian Peace, CEO and founder, Peace Software. "Peace's
compliance with Oracle's database solution will allow Peace to broaden
marketshare in the U.S., and as utility customers resolve Year 2000
issues, there will be a growing need for advanced customer information
systems such as Energy in the year ahead."
Peace has also selected Enterprise Java Beans (EJB), embedded
in the BEA WebLogic Server, as its core technology for ensuring
an open, extensible architecture. BEA WebLogic 4.5 features a rich
implementation of Sun Microsystems' Java 2, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)
platform standard, and enables an open architecture, as well as
robust, secure and manageable access with the Peace Energy CIS's
browser user interface.
Energy's browser user interface provides ease-of-use to
consumers accessing billing and utility usage information over the
Internet, as well as to the utility's internal call center employees.
Customer service personnel can leverage the usability and familiarity
of the web browser, accelerating training effectiveness and integrating
database information presentation with business processes and other
information sources to Support the delivery of consistent, high-quality
customer service.
"BEA Weblogic Server helps ensure that Peace Software's customers
have their e-commerce needs met around the clock, and that their
online experiences are fast, reliable and secure every time,"
said Joe Menard, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at
BEA. "Peace Software is an excellent example of a BEA
customer working to bring the utilities industry into the Internet
era."
