Excelergy Corporation Appoints Jay Sherry Vice President of Marketing
Rapidly Growing Energy E-Commerce Company Adds Experienced Marketing Executive

CAMBRIDGE, MA., September 20, 1999 – Excelergy, a leader in application and transaction services for the energy market, announced that Jay Sherry has joined the company as vice president of marketing. Sherry will be responsible for all the marketing activities, including product management, strategic alliances and market development for Excelergy’s suite of billing and customer information software and Energymarketplace.com, Excelergy’s newly acquired Internet-based shopping center for energy. Energymarketplace.com provides consumers with energy choice information and allows energy service providers to respond to requests for proposal from energy customers over the Internet.

“Jay has arrived at Excelergy at just the right time,” said Cary Bullock, founder and president of Excelergy. “ “He will lead us in building the brand called Excelergy and in making sure that our products and services, among the most innovative in the deregulated energy industry, will continue to be the market leaders. We are absolutely thrilled to have him onboard.”

In addition to energy Marketplace, Sherry will also be responsible for marketing the company’s advanced software products, including Excelergy ABP™ 1200 (Advanced Billing Platform), Excelergy eXACT™ (Electronic information transaction system) and Excelergy WERCS™ (Web-enabled Response Channel System) to the retail energy market.

Sherry brings to Excelergy over 20 years of wide-ranging computer industry experience with a number of companies. Previously, he headed up worldwide marketing for Kenan Systems, a $180M provider of enterprise application software and services to the telecommunications industry. He was a key contributor to Kenan’s ten-fold growth over the past three years, culminating in its acquisition by Lucent Technologies. Previously he worked for IBM for 13 years where among his responsibilities was the brand management of the Netfinity PC Server and RS/6000 UNIX server product lines.

Sherry received a Sc.B. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Understanding the new business paradigm of the deregulated energy industry — a market estimated to be $300 billion— Excelergy developed its software solutions to be flexible, scalable and web-based to lower transaction costs and improve customer service. As a result, Excelergy has grown rapidly to become one of the leaders in billing, customer care and transaction management solutions for the retail energy market.
