FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cinergy/Community Energy Partnership
Introduces On-Line Energy Use and Analysis Program
CINCINNATI, OH., September 20, 1999 - Have you
ever wondered how much of your energy bill is used for lighting
or water heating? Are you looking for new ideas on how to save on
your home's utility bill? Cinergy's new on-line personal energy
profile for your home lets you do just that. The profile is available
at the company's web site located at www.cinergy.com
and allows any homeowner to analyze their energy bill and how energy
is used in the home.
The program was developed for Cinergy residential customers by
Enercom, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia. The Atlanta-based organization
specializes in Internet- and PC-based energy application gateways.
Additional information about its web-based audits can be found at
www.energydepot.com.
"What is unique about this tool is that it uses the Cinergy/CG&E
and Cinergy/ULH&P customers' actual billing histories to develop
their energy usage profiles," said Kathy Ruthen, Cinergy's
program manager for the site. "Unlike most other energy analysis
tools, this one uses the customer's actual bill and breaks out how
energy is used within the home. The profile also gives the customer
specific suggestions on how they can improve energy
efficiency and use."
After answering some basic questions, homeowners receive a personalized
report detailing their month-to-month energy usage in terms of dollars
and energy units, as well as an analysis of the cost of individual
appliances over a year's time. The web site also features an extensive
Energy Library and set of Frequently Asked Questions on energy use
in the home from insulation levels and venting, to home appliances
and energy standards. A Cinergy Energy Advisor will even answer
a customer's specific question through the site.
"This is the best on-line energy tool available," according
to Rick Morgan, a national energy consultant. "It is easy to
use, yet very accurate. It provides the homeowner a easy-to-understand
report that can be continuously referred to for energy information
and advice."
Funding to develop the site was provided from a Cinergy effort
called the Cinergy/Community Energy Partnership (CCEP). The CCEP
is a group of community representatives who help Cinergy develop
energy efficiency programs for its residential customers. Other
programs developed by the CCEP include energy education in schools,
in-home energy audits, energy materials in local libraries, energy
education, assistance and weatherization for low-income customers
and energy workshops for new home buyers.
