Excelergy to Take Socalgas’ energymarketplace.com Nationwide

Nation’s First Internet Based Shopping Center for Energy Will Expand Beyond the California Market

CAMBRIDGE, MA. September 13, 1999 - Excelergy, a leader in application and transaction services for the energy market, today announced an agreement with Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) to launch the West Coast e-commerce trailblazer, Energy Marketplace, nationwide. Energymarketplace.com provides consumers with energy choice information and allows energy service providers to bid for new energy customers over the Internet. Excelergy has now assumed development, marketing and sales responsibilities for Energy Marketplace.

“Excelergy is committed to making energy choice simpler and more cost-efficient for both consumers and energy service providers nationwide,” said Cary Bullock, president of Excelergy. “This agreement is a giant step in that direction. Energy Marketplace provides real-time, interactive consumer and supplier price information and at the same time allows energy service providers to Acquire new customers at low cost, and customers benefit via one-stop-shopping for energy among dozens of suppliers. Energy Marketplace functions as a market-maker, matching energy buyers and sellers in an auction fashion.”

As the foremost provider of energy choice for consumers in California with 16 providers participating, Energy Marketplace, established in November 1997 by SoCalGas, also provides business-to-business e-commerce services to top utility companies throughout the United States. Excelergy will continue to expand the site to include other utilities wanting to promote customer choice and energy service companies looking for a cost-effective means of communication. Several of the SoCalGas employees involved in Energy Marketplace have joined the Excelergy staff.
