Roanoke Gas Company Ready for
Deregulation, Diversification with Go-Live on Orcom Customer Information
System
New Software Improves Call Center Efficiency,
Streamlines Multi-Service Operations
BEND, OR., August 23, 1999 - Orcom Solutions and
Roanoke Gas Company recently achieved go-live on Orcom’s Enterprise
Customer Information System (E-CISTM), culminating an
eight-month project that came in on time and under budget. The E-CIS
will support Roanoke Gas’s strategies for strengthening its competitive
position in the deregulating marketplace, offering new products
and services, and streamlining its call center operations.
The project included merging customer records from Roanoke Gas
Company and Bluefield Gas Company into a single database, while
retaining support for multi-company operations. The two companies
are subsidiaries of RGC Resources, and serve a customer base in
southwestern Virginia and southern West Virginia.
John Williamson, president and CEO of RGC Resources and chairman
of Roanoke Gas Company, said, “Orcom’s E-CIS is a state-of-the-art
product that supports our strategies for doing business in a deregulated
environment. Features like the ability to manage two companies from
a single system, and to Bill any combination of products and services,
will help us diversify and remain competitive. These elements are
critical to our success, given the continuing changes in the natural
gas industry.“
“The implementation process was a positive experience for everyone
involved,” said Arthur Pendleton, president and COO of Roanoke Gas
Company. “The Orcom team’s collaboration with our staff not only
ensured we met our go-live date, but also allowed the project to
come in under budget. Our goal was to have the new software in use
prior to2000, so we could continue to make progress in other areas,
such as implementing Orcom’s fuel delivery module for propane billing.”
Pendleton added, “Orcom’s E-CIS provides a full range of billing
and customer service capabilities. With this system, we can manage
today’s needs and any type of commodity offering we add in the future.”
Bobby Wells, Director Information Systems for Roanoke Gas Company,
noted the E-CIS’s advanced functionality will help the company achieve
efficiencies in training new customer service representatives and
operating its call center. He noted, “The Graphical User Interface
provides a familiar Windows-based interface that is similar to our
other network applications, so we will be able to get new customer
service representatives up to speed faster.”
Drew Child, president of Orcom Solutions, stressed Orcom’s continuing
commitment to staying ahead of its clients’ needs in the evolving
marketplace. “Orcom invests substantial resources in continually
evolving its products to help our clients meet the challenges of
deregulation and open access markets. We are pleased to be part
of Roanoke Gas Company’s vision for growing its company and acquiring
market share.”
