MALVERN, PA., July 12, 1999 - SCT (Nasdaq: SCTC), a leading provider of advanced software solutions for utilities, energy service providers, and communications companies today announced that Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) has purchased SCT's Banner Customer Management suite to provide company-wide, comprehensive customer information management. The purchase also includes SCT's Banner Customer Contact System, Banner Electronic Work Queue System, Banner Customer Target+ for Marketing, Banner Customer Web Access, plus implementation and support services. The approximate value of the total contract, including all anticipated implementation and support services, could be $7M. The contract was signed in SCT's third fiscal quarter, which ended June 30, 1999.

MLGW is standardizing on SCT's Banner solutions to Support a complete customer relationship management strategy. Through gas and electric deregulation, MLGW looks to remain the utility of choice for its customers by combining fair, equitable, and consistent service levels with unique personalization for individual customers.

Banner solutions' fully automated, enterprise-wide customer critical workflows will replace a mainframe system which batch processed customer requests. A customer service order that formerly could take up to three days to enter and appear in the mainframe system will now be quickly entered and executed through SCT's Banner workflows.

"SCT's Banner solution will provide us with the tools to respond in a timely and intelligent fashion to all customer contacts," said Tony Bishop, supervisor of information systems at Memphis Light, Gas and Water.  "Its graphical intuitive interface allows customer service representatives easy access to the information they need to respond to a customer and meet their needs."

Larry Thompson, senior vice president at Memphis Gas, Light and Water, said, "The Banner system will let everyone in our organization know quickly what our customer needs. Having one system that will help us know more about all our customers than our competitors, and still treat each customer uniquely, is key to our strategy."

SCT was chosen after a comprehensive review of all providers currently active in the market. SCT had the tightest business match to MLGW's needs, including the ability to generate bills for some of the largest industrial as well as individual residential customers; the ability to manage customer relationship exchanges through the Internet; and excellent execution of basic customer relationship processes including billing, customer service, payments and meter readings. Additionally, SCT provides MLGW with a solution that not only supports existing business practices, but also quickly flexes for new processes as the company grows and expands its customer relationship programs.

"Business success today relies on customer relationships. Having a comprehensive system that executes customer requests during real-time relationship moments is critical to achieving quality customer service, retention, and better business results," said Bill Mahoney, president of SCT's Energy, Utilities and Communications global market unit.
