AQUILIUM Wins Strategic Contract
in Florida
CHAROLETTETOWN, April 2, 1999 - Aquilium Software
Corp. Today announced receipt of a contract from the City of Smyrna
Beach, Fl. To Upgrade the municipality's utilities billing and information
systems. The contract is for a minimum of three years and will total
an estimated $230,000, most of which will be booked in the first
and second quarters of 1998.
The major part of the Smyrna Beach contract is expected to be completed
in the second quarter. Currently, Aquilium's backlog of work to
be undertaken in the quarter has risen to more than $550,000, and
potential sales contracts in sight could increase this number substantially.
RobertoMontalvo, Finance Director for the municipality, said this
is perfect software for us. Many of our people have to wear several
hats and Aquilium's Customer Service Management software readily
permits and encourages cross training within our other office systems.
Stephen Pate, Aquilium President and CEO, said winning the Smyrna
Beach contract was particularly gratifying because the municipality
is a high profile entity within the 10,000 city-owned utilities
in Aquilium's target market. It is also important because it has
agreed to field reference calls from other utilities which are prospective
Aquilium customers and to permit them to make site visits. Smyrna
Beach is also significant to the Company because it creates a reference
site in a region in which Aquilium had not been represented.
Mr. Pate noted that the Company had only commenced its comprehensive
sales and marketing operations early in 1998 and that the closing
of a significant contract with municipalities like Smyrna Beach
and the previously announced sale to ann Arbor, Michigan indicated
the strong customer appeal of the software. In this industry, he
noted, the gestation period between an initial sales call and contract
signing can frequently take months. He said that the sales cycle
for the Company has been shortened in some instances because the
utility market has been particularly responsive to Aquilium's ready
solution to the Year 2000 problem and to the rapidly increasing
popularity of the Windows NT and Microsoft SQL Server systems used
by Aquilium.
