San Jose Water Company Chooses Orcom Solutions Enterprise Customer Information System to Enable Improved Customer Service and Work Management
Orcom Software to improve Efficiency, Facilitate Beneficial Public-Private Partnerships.

BEND, OREGON. January 11, 1999 - Orcom Solutions, a software company specializing in the utility and energy services industry, announced today that San Jose Water Company, a 215,000 customer utility in San Jose, California selected Orcom's Enterprise Customer Information System (E-CIS) for customer relationship management, work management, equipment management, billing and work order administration. San Jose Water investigated four other solution providers' recent implementations and held a series of employee workshops before choosing Orcom's E-CIS solution.

The employees' assessment that the Orcom product offers a better fit and more flexibility than the existing packaged system was key to the utility's decision. Bob Day, San Jose Water's Customer Service Manager, said, "The Orcom E-CIS enables San Jose Water to design service order management to fit the efficient way we do our work. We can tailor the new system to Offer constant improvements in customer service and abandon inflexible custom programs. Our staff will have the capability to create a workflow for new customers, service orders, and other functions to make their job easier. From our customer's perspective, we will be able to Offer better information and more consistent quality because the system can adapt to the type of service or information we need to Deliver to the customer. Implementing the E-CIS offers improvements for the customers and our employees, which is what we strive for."

In addition, San Jose Water will be better positioned to compete for customers and offer additional services, two elements it considers essential to controlling costs and maintaining affordable rates for its customers.

The Orcom E-CIS offers San Jose Water improved group billing capabilities, the ability to customize delinquency communications for the utility's many good customers, and the ability to route work to specialized maintenance crews for increased efficiency. The product continues Orcom's robust billing and bill history capabilities and adds the ability to Bill an unlimited number of services. San Jose Water also believes the system's separation of customer, account and premise / service records will allow better integration with the company's GIS, SCADA and other systems. Maintenance and service emergencies then can be modeled to limit the impact on the customer and improve customer notification.

Drysdale added, "We have worked with Orcom since 1995. Although we investigated other software vendors' recent implementations or could have chosen a limited ‘Year 2000' upgrade to our existing system, we felt Orcom was the best option and that the value was there to make the move toE-CIS.
