FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Public Service Company of New
Mexico Implements SCT Customer Management System
1B Southwestern Utility Now Using Banner to serve 360,000
Electric and 410,000 Gas Accounts
MALVERN, PA, January 7, 1999 - SCT (Nasdaq:SCTC)
announced today that the Public Service Company of New Mexico (NYSE:
PNM) is using the Banner Customer Management System in a live production
environment.
PNM, Public Service Company of New Mexico, is using the Banner client-server
system to replace two mainframe systems that handled electric and
gas accounts separately. More than 360,000 electric accounts and 410,000
gas accounts were merged into Banner's customer database. The implementation
of Banner was a joint project between SCT, PNM and Cambridge Technology
Partners (Massachusetts), Inc. (Nasdaq:CATP) (Cambridge), an international
management consulting and systems integration firm.
PNM, with annual revenues of $1 billion, is a combined electric and
gas utility, serving 1.3 million people. The company also sells power
on the wholesale market throughout the United States, manages the
City of Santa Fe's water system, and offers energy and water management
services for other municipalities and for government and institutional
clients. Marc Christensen, PNM senior vice president for New Mexico
retail services, said the upgrade to SCT's state of the art customer
management system was made to accommodate energy deregulation. In
1997, Public Service Company of New Mexico became one of the first
gas utilities in the nation to Offer customers a choice of supplier.
Electric choice in the state is also expected, by the year 2001.
"One of the really attractive things about SCT's Banner system
is its capability to Handle an infinite number of products and services,"
said Christensen. "That's a real strength and that's what we
were looking for when we selected Banner. The ability to change those
pricing terms immediately in order to be responsive to the marketplace
is important. The system architecture, compared to our legacy systems,
is much more flexible."
Christensen said Banner will allow PNM to improve efficiency and prepare
for the eventuality of unbundled rates. "Banner will provide
billing information our customers need to help them conserve energy
and save money," Christensen said.
Bill Mahoney, president of SCT Utility Systems, a division of SCT,
said, "Public Service Company of New Mexico is a progressive
investor owned utility offering multiple services. It has strategically
positioned itself for the opportunities that open market competition
will present. The current implementation of the Banner system at PNM
will help to serve its customer base more flexibly, and provide opportunities
to enter new deregulating segments."
