FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Convergys Targets Utility Industry with SPL WorldGroup's SPL WorldGroup's CIS PLUS® Billing and Customer Care Solution
Convergys to Offer Outsourced Billing and Customer Care Services to utilities Market

CINNCINATI and MORRISTOWN, NJ; December 7, 1998 - Convergys Corporation, the global leader in providing outsourced, integrated, billing and customer support solutions, and SPL WorldGroup B.V. (SPL), a leading international provider of information technology, consulting, and enterprise solutions, today announced that Convergys has selected SPL's CIS PLUS®, the premier customer information system for utilities, for the launch of its utilities outsourcing business. Under terms of this agreement, Convergys will now provide comprehensive, outsourced billing and customer care solutions that address the competitive challenges and operational issues facing companies in the utilities and energy services market as they adapt to the fundamental restructuring of the energy marketplace. This will also include non-regulated energy service companies (ESCOs), also referred to as energy service providers (ESPs).

Convergys will utilize its state-of-the-art data centers and call centers to Deliver end-to-end billing and customer care solutions to Support utility and energy service companies. Convergys will do this in two ways: First, Convergys will transition utilities from their less flexible and more costly systems to SPL's CIS PLUS client/server software running in a service bureau environment. This billing solution is flexible and feature-rich as well as economical to operate and maintain. Second, Convergys will provide the outsourced customer service management and support functions required to meet the specific needs of utility and energy service company customers.

According toG2 Research, U.S. utilities are predicted to spend $2 billion on billing and customer support in 1999, which will account for nearly one-third of total global billing and customer support spending by utilities. On average, U.S. utilities billing and customer support IT spending is projected to grow an impressive 11 percent annually. G2 Research recently stated that SPL had the highest customer satisfaction rating of any CIS provider.

"We have been telling investors that we would vigorously pursue a growth strategy for Convergys. This business initiative is an outgrowth of that strategy and our recognition of the significant opportunities that exist in the utilities market," said Jim Orr, president and chief executive officer of Convergys. "Because utilities are confronted with competing needs for their investment dollars, we believe a service bureau solution for both the billing and customer support operations presents a strong economic option for utilities."

"This agreement with Convergys falls directly in line with SPL's business process outsourcing strategy that we outlined several months ago," said Moshe Mor, chief executive officer of SPL WorldGroup. "Customer care and billing are key business processes in the utilities industry. By teaming with Convergys, we are able to provide a full range of customer care and billing options to address the utility industry's diverse requirements.''

"Just as Convergys supports the communications industry as it evolves and adds new services, Convergys, through this alliance with SPL, will provide superior systems and support to the utilities industry as it experiences the same revolutionary changes such as deregulation, privatization, and competition," said Orr.

‘'We are excited to be working with Convergys," said James Reardon, senior vice president and general manager, SPL WorldGroup Utility Practice. ‘'The marriage of CIS PLUS and Convergys' capabilities provides an outsourcing solution to Billing and customer care needs that were historically under addressed. "

The Utility Practice of SPL WorldGroup developed the CIS PLUS customer information system to automate and support all aspects of customer service and management in a utility market that is both regulated and deregulated. CIS PLUS is currently installed at some of the most progressive utilities in the world. The product is designed to accommodate both utility (electric, gas, water) and non-utility services (loans, merchandise sales, leases) from within a single or multi-company environment. The extensible architecture of CIS PLUS enables utilities to take advantage of emerging market opportunities by allowing for a swift adaptation to new and innovative services that will directly impact their revenue growth. As utilities face increasing competition, the CIS PLUS package (in production since 1994) offers a flexible and comprehensive solution to address the dynamic marketplace of the twenty-first century.
