Teldata Acquires FirstPoint Utility
Solutions, Inc. from Enron
Teldata Adds MDMA and MSP
Certifications to Portfolio
CHICAGO,
IL., August 31, 1998 - Teldata, Inc., a utility information
technology company specializing in strategic metering systems and
revenue cycle services for electric, gas and water utilities and
commercial end-users, announced today that it has acquired FirstPoint
Utility Solutions, Inc. ("FirstPoint") from Enron Oregon
Services, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Enron Corp.
FirstPoint, established by Portland General Electric (PGE) prior
to Enron's acquisition of PGE, offers a full range of revenue cycle
services, including meter installation, meter data collection and
management, systems integration, and complex billing services to
wholesale customers such as utilities and other energy service providers.
Enron will continue to offer metering, billing and information services
to retail customers through Enron Energy Services. FirstPoint is
certified in California as a Meter Data Management Agent ("MDMA")
and a Meter Service Provider ("MSP").
"The acquisition of FirstPoint will enable Teldata to Offer
a broader spectrum of products and services, and to more aggressively
enter emerging energy markets," said Donna Salvatore, President
and Chief Executive Officer of Teldata. "FirstPoint has established
a head start in the new era of deregulation as one of the few companies
certified to provide MSP and MDMA services in California. These
capabilities greatly enhance our combined opportunities, not only
in California, but in other areas of the country as well."
"We are very pleased with the FirstPoint team and their
capabilities," Ms. Salvatore said. "The FirstPoint acquisition
brings with it an experienced management team, strong individual
backgrounds in the electric utility industry, open market experience
and proven technologies," she added. "This acquisition
will substantially increase the size of Teldata and greatly enhance
our position as a leading national provider of end-to-end metering
and billing solutions."
Bruce Carpenter, President of First Point, said the joining of
the two companies gives FirstPoint a significant boost. "We're
enthusiastic about the expanded market opportunities that Teldata
brings us, particularly in providing sales channels and stronger
access to East Coast and Midwestern markets. Together, we are solidly
positioned to serve the developing market for competitive metering
and billing services."
Carpenter noted that FirstPoint's certification as an MDMA, MSP
and its experience as a third-party billing agent are valuable additions
to Teldata's portfolio. "Meter data management and flexible
billing systems play a crucial role in the deregulating electricity
markets," Carpenter said. "They are the vital link between
the customer, energy provider and utility distribution company.
MDMAs and billing systems are essential processes to Support accurate
commercial transactions in the new retail energy marketplace.
