HTE Wins $3.7 Million Utility Contract
in Montana
State Will Be One of First
in Nation to Face Utility Deregulation
LAKE MARY, FL., October 8, 1997 -
HTE, Inc. (NASDAQ: HTEI) announced today that it has signed a contract
worth $3.7 million to provide an integrated suite of utility software
products and services to Montana Power, an investor-owned utility
serving a total of 400,000 electric and natural gas customers.
According to Jack Cossel, Montana Power's Manager of Customer Service,
a major factor in the timing of the decision to improve existing
systems was that Montana in 1998 will be one of the first states
in the nation to face deregulation of its utility industry.
"With deregulation of the utility industry and increased competition
moving to the forefront, we need a computer system that will allow
us to compete effectively in the new marketplace," he said.
"HTE's product flexibility will help us meet that need as well
as the needs of our anticipated future customer base."
Brenda Likovetz, director of HTE's Utility Systems division, said,
"Key to the Montana deal was our software's capability to monitor
and bill for any type of service, which in a consumer-choice environment
is crucial. Keeping utility providers competitive in the new market
is a priority for us as deregulation unfolds across the entire United
States."
HTE's Customer Information System (CIS) software application allows
organizations to automate a full range of utility services including
customer and location maintenance; processing of bills, delinquencies,
penalties, refunds, and write-offs; and meter reading maintenance.
CIS can be tailored to meet specific business or operational requirements
and integrates with other HTE software applications to provide a
completely automated utility solution.
"In a more competitive, deregulated business climate, Montana
Power expects new products and services to become available,"
Cossel said. "This gives us the ability to Bill for those the
company chooses to Offer," he added.
Montana Power is a diversified utility providing energy and telecommunications
services across a 107,000-square-mile service area in Montana and
elsewhere in the western United States.
With more than 1,000 customers internationally, HTE, Inc. is an
industry leading enterprise-wide software solutions provider serving
public and private utilities, cities, counties, public safety agencies,
transit authorities and other agencies for more than 15 years. For
