HTE Enters Outsourcing Market
with $8 Million Deal
LAKE MARY, FL., September 15, 1997 HTE,
Inc. (NASDAQ: HTEI) has signed its first customer to take advantage
of a new outsourcing service which enables government entities to
turn over the management of their computer-related functions, including
staff and all software and hardware to the company. Seminole County,
Florida, officials agreed September 9 to the five-year HTE contract
which totals nearly $8 million and is slated to begin October 15.
HTE Resource Management is a new HTE service division assisting
organizations of various sizes that need improvements in their information
processing operations but do not have the resources or budget to
Handle it internally.
Gary Kaiser, Seminole County Manager, said, "The county is
very excited about this strategic partnership. The technology that
will be available to us through this agreement will take us out
from behind the technology curve and put us on the leading edge
at a cost that is less than we could do it for ourselves."
Chris Grasso, the county's telecommunications manager, said that
the county began exploring alternatives this past year when it became
apparent that computer-related services were no longer meeting the
needs of the county. "After further study, we discovered that
outsourcing the entire operation would be the best way to not only
meet our current needs, but also take us into the millennium,"
he said.
Increased market demand and a strong desire to provide additional
services to its customer base were the primary reasons HTE decided
to enter the outsourcing business. "Privatization is a major
trend at all levels of government, but it is only beginning to emerge
in the information services area. We see a tremendous opportunity
to build these public-private partnerships all over the country,"
said John Jones, director of HTE Resource Management.
Because HTE's Resource Management outsourcing package bundles all
software, hardware and information management services into one
monthly fee, customers attain predictable on-going expenses with
limited up-front capital requirements.
Seminole County will leverage a large suite of HTE Applications
and a significant hardware upgrade to provide Year 2000 compliance
and increased services to its citizens. Through the Resource Management
agreement, the existing Seminole County Information Services staff
will become HTE employees.
"This is truly a win-win for everyone involved. It is extremely
difficult for government agencies to stay on top of rapidly changing
technology. With HTE's new service, customers get reliable leading-edge
technology and human resources at a fixed cost. In addition, outsourcing
will also mean greater career advancement opportunities within HTE
for those employees who come over from the customer-side,"
added Jack Harward, Executive Vice President at HTE.
With more than 1,000 customers internationally, HTE, Inc. is an
industry leading enterprise-wide software solutions provider serving
public and private utilities, cities, counties, public safety agencies,
transit authorities and other agencies for more than 15 years. For
